The aim of the Oxford Indian Society is to celebrate India and its diversity. In our capacity as students who are from, or have interest in, India, consciously or sub-consciously we do play the role of ambassador of India. This function is only enhanced by the fact that strong political, social, and intellectual connection India has with the University of Oxford and the United Kingdom. Aware of such an important role, the Oxford Indian Society’s Debating Club aims to generate opinion, in the form of structured arguments of a formal debate, on and around issues that concern India and Indians. We hope that this debate would be eventually able to reflect on how issues are perceived by Oxonians interested in India, and is able to contribute to major debates in policy making in India. In the spirit of diversity of over a billion people, the Debating Club will not be restricted to any specific subject matter and is open to discussing anything and everything that concerns or interests India or Indians. Even though we have started is as an online debate, we want to have real life debates and discussions in the longer run.
We call upon all matriculated members of the University of Oxford to join the Debating Club. We shall be more than happy to have you on board, as participants, organisers, or even as enthusiasts contributing in the debate through comments and suggestions.
